Glass City Marathon
Sunday, April 25, 2027 · 6:30 AM EDT (marathon, half marathon and 5-person relay all start together)
Bancroft St. near the University of Toledo North Tower, Toledo, OH
The race in 60 seconds
First run in 1971, Glass City Marathon has had time to become part of the city's running calendar. The route forms an open loop, finishing in the same part of the city without returning to the exact start point. The modeled line carries about 614 feet of total climb and ranges from roughly 586 to 680 feet above sea level. Look for University Hall (University of Toledo), Memorial Field House, St. Ursula Academy, Wildwood Manor House in the flyover, with recognizable forms modeled from architectural records.
Fly the course
The whole course, built from the best available published route trace and an extruded model of Toledo. Scrub it, change the camera, or let it play. Nothing here is a video: it is drawing the city live.

The route line uses the best published course trace available. Public-domain USGS and USDA aerial photography plus USGS 3DEP elevation are baked into RunRace USA, so the flyover makes no paid map API or third-party runtime requests. Buildings, roads, parks and water use OpenStreetMap, ODbL. This is photographic terrain with modeled architecture, not photogrammetry. Bridge approaches, elevations and facade details are approximations; the organizer's published route remains the reference.
The elevation profile
This Marathon profile covers 26.2 miles, ranges from roughly 586 to 680 feet, and contains about 614 feet of modeled climb.

Race-week weather, measured
At the start line, April 21-29 averaged a low of 42°F and a high of 61°F across 2016-2025. The same window reached 80°F at its warmest and 24°F at its coldest. Measurable rain appeared on about 46% of sampled days. Treat the range, not just the average, as the packing list.
Pace it by effort
The profile and grade strip come from the same route currently loaded in the flyover. Use even pace as a baseline, then protect effort on the highlighted climbs and exposed sections.

Common questions
Do I need to get in early, or is there a lottery?
There is no lottery. The race's own FAQ describes tier or block pricing, where each price block sells out and the next tier activates automatically, so waiting costs money rather than entry. The FAQ does not state a field cap or that the race sells out; treat entry as first come, first served.
Can I transfer, defer, or get a refund?
No deferrals exist, and there are no refunds. What you can do is transfer: change to a different Glass City event, hand your bib to another person, or switch to virtual, all self-managed in your RunSignup profile through April 15. From April 16 you must email [email protected], and the FAQ says those changes are not guaranteed. Optional race insurance is offered at registration.
What is the time limit, and what happens if I fall behind?
The marathon limit is 6.5 hours with mandatory checkpoints along the way. Per the FAQ, runners who miss a checkpoint and still want to continue must sign a release waiver and turn in their bib, meaning no official time and no supported course. The half marathon cutoff is 3.5 hours with sag vehicles available.
Where is bag check and does it move?
Gear check sits between corrals 1 and 2 at the start, then relocates to Lot 10 after the finish. First-timers drop a bag near the start line and then look for it back at the same spot; it is not there. Plan your post-race meet-up around Lot 10, not the Glass Bowl.
How do the corrals work?
The race does use numbered corrals; the FAQ places gear check between corrals 1 and 2. Wheelers start at 6:30 a.m. and the marathon, half marathon, and relay all go off together at 6:32 a.m. That shared start means a crowded first mile with half marathoners around you, so do not read early pace off the people beside you.
What are the weather rules on race morning?
Toledo in late April can be anything, and the race runs an ACSM color-flag system posted at aid stations: green low risk, yellow caution, red extreme caution, white hypothermia risk, black event cancelled. Organisers reserve the right to cancel, delay, or convert the race to a non-scored run. Forecasts come via WTOL 11, the National Weather Service, and the Mercy Health medical director. From general knowledge, not the race site: expect anything from near freezing to 70s, often windy.
What catches people out on course?
Headphones are strongly discouraged; the race actively promotes a headphone-free environment. Outside assistance is banned under USATF rules, so no friend handing you gels. Dogs are not allowed on course or in the stadium, and strollers are 5K only. Aid stations carry lemon-lime Gatorade, water, and GU gels in caffeinated and non-caffeinated versions, plus at least 125 port-a-johns.
Is it really a Boston qualifier course?
The race leans hard on this and backs it with a number: over 22% of its marathon finishers hit a Boston qualifying time. The course is USATF certified, and the FAQ pre-empts the usual complaint by noting that GPS watches commonly read 0.2 to 0.5 miles long or more. Run the tangents, and do not argue with your watch afterwards.

Course geometry provenance is stated beside the player; elevation profiles always use the same route loaded there. City geometry is OpenStreetMap, ODbL. Aerial imagery is from USGS and USDA; other images carry their own source credits. Weather figures use Open-Meteo reanalysis for April 21-29 across 2016-2025 at the start line. Schedule, prices and expo hours were checked in 2026-08-31 and are the fields most likely to move: confirm them on glasscitymarathon.org before you book anything. Spot an error?
