Sleep where race morning works
Where to stay
4 hotels inside a ten minute walk of the start, and 5 within twenty. Where you book matters more here than it does at most races.
The race-week geography
The mistake here is booking on distance to Hayward Field and ignoring which side of the closure line you land on. Agate St north of 19th is shut 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Franklin Blvd at Agate the same eight hours, so a hotel that is a seven-minute drive on Saturday can be undrivable on Sunday morning and unreachable again at noon when you want to shower. The race's own Transportation & Parking page pushes people toward downtown and a shuttle rather than toward parking near the stadium, which tells you what the organisers expect the campus streets to be like. There is no host hotel and no room block named anywhere on the official pages I could reach, so nobody is holding inventory for you.
Downtown Eugene
~1 mile / 20 min to Hayward Field, or the primary race shuttle
This is the base the race is built around: the Graduate Eugene at 66 E 6th Ave is the primary shuttle location, running every 5–8 minutes between 5:15 and 6:30 a.m. while other stops run every 10. Downtown street parking and the city parking garages are free on Sundays, so a car is genuinely easy here. At 5:45 a.m. it is quiet, lit and flat, with a visible cluster of runners walking toward 6th Ave — the least lonely pre-dawn walk of any of these zones. It also sits outside every closure on the road list, so you can drive in Saturday night and out Sunday afternoon without touching a barricade.
Campus / south of Hayward Field (Maverick, Best Western New Oregon, Best Western Hayward Inn)
8 min drive; all three are walkable to the stadium
These sit close enough that you should plan to walk, not drive, on Sunday. Hilyard from 20th to 30th closes 6:00–8:00 a.m. and 24th Ave from Agate to Hilyard the same window, which is exactly the grid these hotels sit in — a car parked on the wrong block Saturday night is boxed in for the morning. Park the car and leave it. At 5:45 a.m. this is residential campus edge: dark, very quiet, sidewalks the whole way, and a steady trickle of runners heading north toward 15th and University.
Valley River / north of the river
shuttle from the Valley River Inn parking lot
A fallback when campus and downtown are full. The race runs a shuttle from the Valley River Inn parking lot (1000 Valley River Way) in the same 5:15–6:30 a.m. window, and post-race shuttles stop at all locations, so you are not stranded at the finish. Nothing on the closure list touches this area, so driving is unrestricted, but you are committing to shuttle timing at both ends of the day.
Springfield
shuttle from Hutton St. and Kruse Way
Viable only if you are already booked over there. The race shuttle stop at Hutton St. and Kruse Way explicitly has no parking, so this works for people staying in walking distance of that corner and nobody else. Springfield's own closures start later — Main St from Glenwood to 10th and A St from 10th to Mill both close 7:30–10:30 a.m. — so a driver leaving before 7:00 a.m. is clear, but the return crosses the course mid-morning.

The morning connection
Assume you are not driving to the stadium on Sunday. The closures around Hayward Field open at 6:00 a.m., before most people would leave a hotel, and the race's own page calls parking around the stadium VERY limited. The whole system is built around a shuttle window of 5:15 to 6:30 a.m. — that is the entire pre-race service, and if you miss 6:30 there is no later bus, only your legs. Gear check opens at 5:45 a.m., which is a useful anchor: catch a shuttle in the first half of the window and you arrive with the gear tent already open.
Course geometry provenance is stated beside the player; elevation profiles always use the same route loaded there. City geometry is OpenStreetMap, ODbL. Aerial imagery is from USGS and USDA; other images carry their own source credits. Weather figures use Open-Meteo reanalysis for April 21-29 across 2016-2025 at the start line.
