The race-week geography
The mistake is booking by the word "Tulsa" instead of by the finish line. Route 66 starts and finishes downtown, and the finish at Guthrie Green is boxed in by closures that start Thursday and hold through Sunday evening - Cameron between Boston and Detroit, Boston between Cameron and Brady, Brady between Boston and Detroit, plus MLK from Easton to Archer, with MLK from I-244 to Archer and Detroit from Archer to I-244 going down at 9 a.m. Friday (per Tulsa news coverage of past editions). That means a downtown hotel is a walk-out-the-door race but a hotel you may not be able to drive to or out of from Thursday onward, and a hotel outside the core is a car problem on Sunday morning, not a distance problem. Your three measured options - Meridia (5 min from start), Mayo 420 Apartments (7 min) and Residence Inn (7 min) - are all in the walkable band. The official host-hotel page lists blocks at DoubleTree by Hilton Tulsa Downtown (616 W. Seventh St), Hyatt Regency Tulsa Downtown (100 E. Second St), Hotel Indigo Tulsa DWTN (121 S. Elgin Ave), Hampton Inn & Suites Tulsa DWTN (211 W. 3rd St), Aloft Tulsa Downtown (200 Civic Center), Fairfield by Marriott Tulsa Downtown (111 N. Main St), Brut Hotel (1840 S. Boulder Ave) and Hampton Inn Tulsa Central (3418 S. 79th East Ave). Note the page contradicts itself on dates: the DoubleTree block reads Nov 20-22, 2026 while every other block on the same page reads 2025 (Hyatt Nov 20-25, Hampton Central Nov 20-24, Indigo Nov 21-23, Hampton DWTN Nov 22-23, Aloft Nov 18-25, Fairfield Nov 21-24 with a Nov 7 booking deadline, Brut Nov 20-24) - verify your year at booking.
Guthrie Green / Brady Arts District (finish-line core)
Under 10 minutes to the finish, roughly 10-15 to the start
This is the block the race takes over: Cameron, Boston, Brady and Reconciliation Way around Guthrie Green are shut from Thursday until about 10 p.m. Sunday, with one lane of MLK also gone. Fairfield by Marriott (111 N. Main) and Hampton Inn & Suites (211 W. 3rd) sit inside or on the edge of this pocket. At 5:45 a.m. it is dark, quiet and closed to traffic - which is exactly what you want on foot and exactly what makes it a trap if you plan to move a car. Park once on arrival and do not plan to touch the car until Sunday afternoon.
Downtown core / Deco District
About 5-10 minutes to the start
Hyatt Regency (100 E. Second St), Aloft (200 Civic Center) and your measured Meridia and Mayo 420 sit in the office-tower grid south of the finish. Southbound Boston, Cincinnati and Detroit from 2nd stay open in past editions, and 3rd Street west feeds Highway 51 and I-244, so this side of downtown keeps a driveable exit even while the finish is sealed. At 5:45 a.m. it is empty sidewalk and streetlight - safe enough, but nothing is open, so bring your own coffee or pick a hotel with the 5:30 a.m. runner breakfast the race advertises.
West downtown / Boulder-Denver corridor
10-15 minutes to the start
DoubleTree Tulsa Downtown (616 W. Seventh St) and Brut Hotel (1840 S. Boulder Ave) sit on the Boulder/Denver spine. Past coverage says Denver and Boulder south of 6th and north of 18th stay open, and 18th between Detroit and Denver stays clear as a way north to Highway 75 - so this is the best compromise if you actually need the car to work on Sunday. Brut at 18th and Boulder is the longest of these walks and reads more neighborhood than downtown at 5:45 a.m.
East Tulsa / airport corridor (car base)
Not walkable; drive plus parking
Hampton Inn Tulsa Central (3418 S. 79th East Ave) is the only host hotel well outside downtown. It solves parking and price and creates a race-morning driving problem instead: you have to be parked in a downtown lot before the closures tighten, and Sunday transit does not start until 8 a.m., which is start time. Only sensible if you are comfortable arriving downtown around 6:15-6:30 a.m. and walking in from a paid lot.

The morning connection
Assume you are walking. Tulsa Transit runs Sunday service only from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., and its downtown hub, Denver Avenue Station at 319 S. Denver across from the BOK Center, is dead at 5:45 a.m. - so there is no bus that gets you to a morning start, and rideshare will be dropping you at the edge of a closed grid, not at the corral. The workable plan is a hotel inside the walk radius, or a car parked downtown before the perimeter tightens. Cars can still reach most downtown hotels: the closures are a ring around Guthrie Green rather than a blanket shutdown, and past-year coverage names the escape routes explicitly. What no page I could reach would tell me is when towing starts on the closed streets - the official parking page redirects to a dead link - so treat any car left on a race street overnight as at risk and confirm with your hotel.
Course geometry provenance is stated beside the player; elevation profiles always use the same route loaded there. City geometry is OpenStreetMap, ODbL. Aerial imagery is from USGS and USDA; other images carry their own source credits. Weather figures use Open-Meteo reanalysis for November 18-26 across 2016-2025 at the start line. Schedule, prices and expo hours were checked in 2026-08-31 and are the fields most likely to move: confirm them on route66marathon.com before you book anything. Spot an error?
