This is a point-to-point course: the finish is about 12.6 miles from the start as the crow flies. Pick one mid-course anchor and the finish; trying to leapfrog repeatedly is usually the trap.

Moving around race morning
Everything on race morning is a queue with a clock attached. For 2026, NYRR changed the model: you pick your mode of transportation (Staten Island Ferry, New York Public Library bus, or New Jersey Meadowlands bus) and NYRR assigns your departure time based on your registered or best pace, rather than you choosing the time yourself. Selections opened on August 25 and can be changed through September 8 at 11:59pm ET, after which you are living with what you picked. Both ends of the day are longer than they look: budget 60 to 90 minutes from joining the queue to clearing security at Fort Wadsworth, and 20 to 30 minutes of walking after you cross the line before you are out of the park.
Course geometry provenance is stated beside the player; elevation profiles always use the same route loaded there. City geometry is OpenStreetMap, ODbL. Aerial imagery is from USGS and USDA; other images carry their own source credits. Weather figures use Open-Meteo reanalysis for October 28-November 5 across 2016-2025 at the start line.
