The race-week geography

The mistake here is treating Mesa Marathon like a start-line race. It is point to point: the start is up on Usery Mountain and you are not driving there. Every marathon and 10K runner parks or sleeps near the FINISH at Mesa Riverview Park and rides a race bus up, so the only lodging question that matters is how fast you can get to the Sloan Park bus corners at 4:30 a.m. and how short the walk is after you cross the line. Mesa Marathon's own travel page says it partners with local hotels for runner rates but names no hotels; Visit Mesa names the two that matter, saying runners at the Courtyard by Marriott Mesa and the Sheraton Mesa Hotel "will enjoy a short walk to the finish line." Book one of those and you have solved lodging, morning transport, and the post-race walk in one move. Note also that the half marathon does NOT bus from Riverview: half runners park at 3260 North 40th Street, a completely different base, so pick your hotel around your distance.

Wrigleyville West / Mesa Riverview (Sheraton, Courtyard)

Sheraton Mesa at Wrigleyville West is about a minute from the finish and the Courtyard about two, and Visit Mesa confirms both are a short walk to the Riverview Park finish. This is the only base where you can walk to your race-morning bus instead of driving into a closure zone: the Mesa Marathon travel page has marathon buses leaving from the Sloan Park corner of Sheffield and Rio Salado and 10K buses from Clark and Rio Salado, both within the same Riverview complex. It is a spring-training and retail pocket, so at 5:45 a.m. it is empty parking lots, lit sidewalks and nothing open; bring your own coffee. Gear check trucks shut at 6:00 a.m. at each start area, so leave the room with your drop bag already packed.

If you stay elsewhere and drive in, the travel page says all parking at the Riverview Park finish area is open to all participants, with a drop-off near Riverview Auto Drive to avoid congestion. Marathon runners must be in the parking area no later than 4:30 a.m. and 10K runners no later than 5:15 a.m., which is before the 4 a.m. closures fully bite only if you approach from outside the loop. Visit Mesa also points spectators here, calling the lots ample. Your car sits at the finish all morning, which is the whole point of a point-to-point with a downhill start.

The travel page is blunt: "THERE IS NO BUSING OF HALF MARATHON RUNNERS FROM RIVERVIEW PARK." Half runners park at 3260 North 40th Street and must arrive by 5:15 a.m., with a ten-minute walk to staging, or use the drop-off at 4201 East Oasis Street, a five-minute walk. If you are running the half, a Riverview hotel gains you nothing in the morning; it only helps at the finish, where shuttles bring you back to that 40th Street parking between 8:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. along Sheffield Street.

Visit Mesa describes the downtown around the finish as vibrant and upbeat with growing dining and retail. It is the sensible choice if you want somewhere to eat the night before that is not a chain, but it sits inside the closure footprint: Mesa says race-day closures run 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. and reopen in stages, so plan to walk rather than move a car on race morning.

The morning connection

Two things govern race morning: the buses are mandatory and the streets are shut. The Mesa Marathon travel page requires marathon and 10K runners to ride race buses to the start from the Sloan Park corners, and the City of Mesa says race-day road closures are in effect from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m., reopening in stages as runners pass. The race's own travel page words it differently, saying closures begin at 4:00 a.m. on February 13 with all streets reopened by 1:30 p.m. (that page reads as the 2027 edition), while the City's 2026 notice puts race day on February 14 with a 2 p.m. end; treat both as live and check the year you are running. A car can still reach the Riverview hotels and lots if you approach from outside the course loop and arrive before your 4:30 a.m. or 5:15 a.m. deadline, and Mesa runs a personalized barricade help line for exactly this. Getting back to your room after finishing is the easy half: if you slept at the Sheraton or Courtyard you walk, and if you drove, your car is already at the finish.
