Where to watch
A course-aware spectator plan for Houston.
Read the geography first
The course returns toward its starting district. Use the map to choose a fixed anchor and the finish, and never build a plan that requires crossing the live route.
Gold is the selected modeled course; route provenance is stated beside the flyover.

Moving around race morning
Two clocks matter and they conflict slightly in the race's own coverage: police are expected to begin shutting streets in and around downtown at 5:30 a.m. (ABC13), while the formal all-lane closures on the route streets are described as beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday (KPRC). Plan to the earlier one. METRO is strongly recommending riders use public transit during race weekend (KPRC), and METRO routes may be adjusted, so check schedules ahead (houston.com). The three measured stops (Preston, Central Station Capitol, Central Station Main) all sit in the downtown core, so rail drops you inside the closed zone rather than outside it, which is exactly what you want when cars cannot get through. Afterwards, expect to walk: streets stay shut until roughly 2 p.m. (houston.com), long after most finishers are done.
Course geometry provenance is stated beside the player; elevation profiles always use the same route loaded there. City geometry is OpenStreetMap, ODbL. Aerial imagery is from USGS and USDA; other images carry their own source credits. Weather figures use Open-Meteo reanalysis for January 13-21 across 2016-2025 at the start line. Schedule, prices and expo hours were checked in 2026-08-27 and are the fields most likely to move: confirm them on www.chevronhoustonmarathon.com before you book anything. Spot an error?
