Where to stay
17 hotels inside a ten minute walk of the start.
The race-week geography
The mistake here is treating this like a race where you can stay anywhere and drive in. You cannot: the race's own parking page tells participants and spectators to be downtown and parked no later than 6 a.m. because of road closures, and the Downtown Memphis event page says the same thing with a 6:15 a.m. deadline, so the two official-ish sources disagree by fifteen minutes and you should plan to the earlier one. Downtown parking is split into color zones, and the yellow zones lock you in: vehicles must be parked by 6 a.m. and can only exit after 11:30 a.m. Red zones take no vehicles and no parked cars at all. That means a downtown room you can walk out of is worth more than a cheaper room you have to drive from, and if you do drive, where you park decides when you leave, not when you finish. Note that the 22-hotel downtown cluster near Beale Street and AutoZone Park is a pre-measured input to this dossier, not something confirmed on a page fetched here.
Core downtown near Beale Street and AutoZone Park
walkable; no car needed on race morning
This is the cluster the measurement flagged, and it is the base that makes the 6 a.m. parking deadline irrelevant to you. Gear check sits at Union Avenue and 4th Street and runs 5:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., and water and restrooms are available inside AutoZone Park and near the start line, all within a few blocks of these hotels. At 5:45 a.m. the area is closed streets, barricades, and runners walking in the dark toward Union Avenue rather than an empty city. Union Avenue between B.B. King Boulevard and Danny Thomas Boulevard closes to all traffic and parking early on race morning, so anything on that corridor is inside the sealed zone.
Riverfront edge near Riverside Drive
short walk east into the start area
Riverside Drive is where the race routes rideshare: 115 Riverside Dr., the Tennessee Welcome Center, is an all-day Uber and Lyft point, with access in and out through the I-40 ramp only. A room on this western edge keeps you outside the tightest closures while still being on foot to the start. It is quiet and exposed to river wind at 5:45 a.m., which matters more than distance when you are standing in a corral.
Southeast of the start, near S. Lauderdale Street
drivable in, and the pickup point that still works midday
The second official rideshare spot is S. Lauderdale St. between Beale St. and Union Ave., open all day. That makes the blocks southeast of the start the practical fallback if you are staying outside the core: you can be dropped in the morning and picked up after finishing without waiting for the yellow-zone 11:30 a.m. release. Treat it as a car-access base, not a walk-out-the-door base.
Anywhere requiring a race-morning drive
park by 6 a.m. or you do not get in
If you stay outside downtown, the parking color zones govern your entire day. Green areas are accessible all day with timely exit options; yellow areas require you to be parked by 6 a.m. and hold your car until after 11:30 a.m.; red areas take nothing. Advance purchase of downtown parking is encouraged and can be reserved through premiumparking.com. Downtown Memphis puts typical parking around $10. Choose green if you want to drive away right after finishing.

The morning connection
Plan on foot power and rideshare, not on buses. Nothing fetched here confirms that Memphis Area Transit Authority buses or the Main Street Trolley run early enough to deliver you to a corral before an 8 a.m. marathon start, and the race's own transportation guidance skips transit entirely in favor of two designated rideshare points and reserved parking. The one hard constraint is the 6 a.m. parking cutoff (6:15 a.m. per the Downtown Memphis page), which is early enough that a first-run trolley or bus is unlikely to help even if it exists. Getting back to your room after finishing is the easy half: the finish is in the same downtown core as the hotels, so a walk works, and if you drove into a yellow zone your car is not leaving until after 11:30 a.m. regardless.
