Sleep where race morning works
Where to stay
15 hotels inside a ten minute walk of the start.
The race-week geography
Cincinnati's downtown is compact and the whole race weekend lives inside a half-mile box on the riverfront. Rosa Parks Street starts you, Mehring Way finishes you, Smale Riverfront Park hosts the Victory Party, and the expo is four blocks north at 5th and Elm. Almost anywhere central works logistically. What actually changes between neighbourhoods is where you eat on Saturday night, and how far you carry your legs at 5:45 on Sunday morning.
The Banks
Under 5 minutes
The strip between Paycor Stadium and Great American Ball Park, and the start line runs directly through it on Rosa Parks Street. The AC Hotel at The Banks on Joe Nuxhall Way is a two-block walk to your corral. Smale Riverfront Park, the Mehring Way finish and the Victory Party are the same two blocks the other way. You can sleep until 5:50 and still make gear check. The trade: it is a stadium-and-bar district with only a handful of rooms, so it goes first and prices like it, and it is dead on a non-event weeknight.
Downtown core, around Fountain Square and 5th Street
10 to 15 minutes
Where the official host hotels actually are: the Hyatt, the Hilton Netherland Plaza and the Westin all sit on or just off 5th Street. This is the sweet spot. The expo at 525 Elm Street is in the same four blocks, the post-race shuttles drop back along 5th Street, and Fountain Square is the mile-5 spectator zone, so your family can walk out of the lobby, watch you at mile 5, and walk to the finish. The trade: downtown Cincinnati empties out after work, so dinner Saturday means a walk up to Over-the-Rhine or down to The Banks.
Over-the-Rhine
About 30 minutes on foot, or a short rideshare
The best food and coffee in the city, from Washington Park up to Findlay Market, roughly a mile and a half north of the start. Ideal for the pre-race dinner and the post-race brunch. The catch is specific and worth knowing before you book: the Connector streetcar is free and would solve this in eight minutes, but Sunday service does not begin until 9:30 a.m. and Saturday not until 8:30 a.m., both well after every start gun. You are walking down in the dark or paying for a car.
Covington, Kentucky
About 20 minutes, roughly a mile
Straight across the Roebling Suspension Bridge, which the race keeps open to pedestrians the entire weekend. Embassy Suites, the Marriott at RiverCenter, the Holiday Inn, the Courtyard and the Radisson are all official shuttle stops, so you walk over in the dark and ride back afterward. Rooms run cheaper than downtown and you get the skyline view across the river. The trade: you are crossing a river on foot before 6 a.m., and getting to the expo means a car, a ride or a second long walk.
Newport, Kentucky
About 30 minutes, roughly a mile and a half
Newport on the Levee, across the Taylor Southgate Bridge, which the marathon itself crosses inside the first two miles. Same shuttle service and the same cheaper rooms as Covington, just half a mile further out. The reason to pick it over Covington is spectators: your people can walk out of the hotel, catch you going through Newport in the opening miles, and still get back downtown in time for the finish.
Mount Adams
Not walkable to the start. Drive or rideshare.
The hillside neighbourhood above Eden Park with the best views in the city and a real bar scene. Do not base a start-line morning here: you are several hundred feet up and the road closures wall you in. But it sits on top of the 300-foot climb between miles 6 and 9, which makes it the single best place in Cincinnati to park a spectator who wants to see you when it actually hurts.
Hotels, by walk to the start
Pig Works answers this bluntly in its own FAQ: there are no hotels right at the start or finish, but many are within walking distance on both the Ohio and Kentucky sides. Book through the official host-hotel portal at flyingpigmarathon.com/travel, which carries discounted rates and, more usefully for a 6:30 a.m. race, negotiated late checkout. Post-race shuttles only serve the official hotels, so booking off-portal means walking back.

The morning connection
Nothing public runs early enough to get you to a 6:30 a.m. start. This is the one hard fact to plan around. You are walking, or you are parking and then walking.
Course geometry provenance is stated beside the player; elevation profiles always use the same route loaded there. City geometry is OpenStreetMap, ODbL. Aerial imagery is from USGS and USDA; other images carry their own source credits. Weather figures use Open-Meteo reanalysis for April 28-May 6 across 2016-2025 at the start line. Schedule, prices and expo hours were checked in August 2026 and are the fields most likely to move: confirm them on flyingpigmarathon.com before you book anything. Spot an error?
